The 80th Oaks Stakes took place on Friday 21st May 1858 and was won by Governess (4/1), by Chatham out of Laurel Mare trained by T Eskrett, who won by 3/4 length (after an initial dead-heat and then a run off) in 2 mins 53.5 secs. The winner won £3,845 (Equivalent to £399,900 in 2017) and there were 13 runners.
